Popeyes may be the official wing of watching football, but that’s not the only chicken customers love from Popeyes. We’re sure you’ll never forget the moment the fast food chain broke the internet—and began an all-out battle—with the release of its chicken sandwich in 2019.
Since its initial launch, the restaurant has offered multiple iterations of the chicken sandwich—most recently introducing the spicy Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich. Now, in honor of Super Bowl LIX being held in New Orleans, where Popeyes was founded, the chain is releasing a new chicken sandwich for a very limited time. And, to take it one step further, Popeyes is teaming up with a major NFL supporter that’s rather unexpected: Diageo’s Tequila Don Julio.
Popeyes Teams up With Tequila Don Julio for New Chicken Sandwich

Popeyes is releasing a new Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Concha Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich is made with the same chicken breast fried in the buttermilk breading you know and love, but the fillet gets an additional ingredient: a reposado tequila marinade. After marinating and frying, the crispy chicken breast is topped with a tequila lime slaw, spicy spread, and a barrel-cured pickle, all on a buttery concha roll.
Concha is a sweet Mexican bread roll that has the same Brioche-like texture and a crunchy sugar topping. Popeyes’ new Concha Chicken Sandwich is a blend of Southern savory fried chicken, sweet Mexican pastry, and kick of tequila for a bite unlike any other.
Additionally, because Popeyes is just as well-known for its chicken wings—and it is game day after all—the chain is releasing Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Louisiana Garlic 3-Piece Wings and a Spicy Strawberry Hibiscus Flavored Lemonade Mocktail.
However, before you put your shoes on and head to your local Popeyes restaurant, there’s a catch. The Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio menu will only be available for one day in select cities.
On Jan. 31, select Popeyes locations in Kansas City, Miami, New Orleans, New York, and Philadelphia will serve the Concha Chicken Sandwich, Tequila Don Julio Reposado-flavored wings, and Spicy Strawberry Hibiscus Lemonade to customers 21 and over.
The original Popeyes flagship store on Canal Street in New Orleans will have an extended run for the lineup and sell it every day leading up to the Super Bowl on Feb. 9, while supplies last.

If you don’t live near one of these restaurants, Popeyes is offering a buy-one-get-one-free chicken sandwich deal on UberEats from Jan. 29 through Feb. 9—as well as a $5 promo code to use on Tequila Don Julio. So, no matter if you can get the real deal or not, Popeyes can still be part of your Super Bowl experience.
