Dill Pickle Dip Ingredients

To make dill pickle dip, you’ll need cream cheese, dill pickles, fresh dill, green onions, garlic powder and pickle juice. See the recipe card below for amounts and details.

  • Dill Pickles: Choose your favorite brand of dill pickles. You can make this recipe with standard jarred pickles, artisan refrigerated pickles or even homemade pickles. You can use dill pickle spears or whole dill pickles. I don’t use dill pickle chips because they don’t provide a good texture for this recipe.
  • Cream Cheese: Use a standard block of cream cheese. This recipe is designed for a block of cream cheese rather than a tub of cream cheese.
  • Fresh Dill: Fresh dill really helps the flavor of your dip. You can usually find a small package of fresh dill in your grocery store’s produce section.
  • Pickle Juice: Pickle juice refers to the brining liquid that the pickles are stored in. Simply spoon out or pour out two tablespoons of the liquid from your pickle jar for this recipe.

Tips For the Perfect Dill Pickle Dip

  • You can soften your cream cheese by unwrapping it and placing the cheese in a microwave safe bowl. Then microwave it in 20 second increments until it softens.
  • Make sure to chop your dill pickles into bite sized pieces. You want to be able to pick up the chunks on a chip.
  • I use fresh dill and green onions to accentuate the pickle flavor. It’s really important to use fresh herbs here because the ingredient list is so short for this dip, you want to go for quality. I really prefer fresh dill over dried dill for this recipe.
  • I like to top my pickle dip with more chopped pickles and dill so that everyone knows exactly what flavor it is!
  • You can mix everything together with a spoon or use a hand mixer.
  • I serve this dip with a variety of dippers, like pretzels and potato chips. Other great options are baguette slices, breadsticks, crackers and fresh veggies like carrots and celery.
  • If you end up with leftover dill pickle dip, it also makes an amazing sandwich spread! You could even enjoy this dip on toast.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for a large crowd, and you can make it up to 8 hours in advance.

Quick Tip

You can use any brand of pickles that you like, I’ve tried numerous brands and they all work just fine.

Flavor Variations

While this dill pickle dip is fabulous as-is, you can absolutely add other ingredients to customize the flavors to your tastes.

  • Protein: Stir in some finely diced ham or cooked crumbled bacon to add some protein to the dish.
  • Cheese: Add in some grated cheese like an aged white cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese or Swiss cheese to accentuate the flavors of the pickles.
  • Add-Ins: Feel free to add smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper, jalapeno, chopped chives, diced black olives, Cajun seasoning or even other herbs like basil or parsley.
  • Softer: For a softer dip, you can add sour cream, plain Greek yogurt or more pickle juice until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Sweet Pickles: If you are a big fan of sweet pickles or bread and butter pickles you can use them. You will end up with a sweeter dip.
  • Spicy: If you want to kick up the heat, try using spicy dill pickles or add a little hot sauce. If you add hot sauce your dip may turn pink.

This dill pickle dip is absolutely a must try if you’re a pickle fan. I always get so many compliments on it, your family and friends will enjoy it too!
