According to a Feb. 7 press release, Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling canned tuna sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brand labels. The recall was initiated after Tri-Union Seafoods was notified by its supplier that the cans’ “easy open” pull tab lids have a manufacturing defect that may affect the products’ seal and possibly contaminate the tuna with clostridium botulinum (commonly referred to as botulism), a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.
How To Identify the Recalled Canned Tuna
The recalled products were sold under various brand labels at several stores nationwide. The following labels were sold in the following states and stores:
- H-E-B label: Texas.
- Trader Joe's label: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.
