There are quite a few famous food names that we love to hear from—like Duncan Hines, our girl Little Debbie, and, of course, Mr. Ronald McDonald himself. But, when it comes to the name “Mike” in the food world, there might just be too many to choose from.

You’ve got the OG Jersey Mike’s, which will forever hold a special place in our hearts; the classic Mike’s Hard Lemonade; and the up-and-comer Mike’s Hot Honey, which seems to be taking over the food scene lately. So, in a world of many Mike’s, the best thing a Mike can do is to team up with another Mike, right?

While we’d love to know what a Jersey Mike’s x Mike’s Hard Lemonade—or even Mike’s Hot Honey Hard Lemonade—would look like, that’s not the Mike duo pairing up this time. Instead, Jersey Mike’s is bringing one of the trendiest condiments, Mike’s Hot Honey, to its beloved sandwiches for a limited time.

Following the National Restaurant Association naming the sweet-and-spicy condiment on its What’s Hot 2025 Culinary Forecast, Jersey Mike’s has decided to add Mike’s Hot Honey to its customizations menu. But, unlike the restaurant chains that have had partnerships with Mike’s Hot Honey in the past, including KFC and Dunkin’, Jersey Mike’s took the heat up a notch.

Mike’s Hot Honey Extra Hot is now available at all Jersey Mike’s locations as an add-on to any hot or cold sub. Unlike Jersey Mike’s regular spicy customizations, like its Hot Chopped Pepper Relish, Jalapeño Peppers Chipotle Mayo, adding Mike’s Hot Honey to your sandwich will cost you an additional 75 cents.

But, after trying the new Mike’s Hot Honey on our go-to sandwiches, we can agree it’s worth the quarters. Here is our honest review.

Our Honest Review of Jersey Mike's New Mike's Hot Honey Sandwiches

In trying the Mike’s Hot Honey add-on, we wanted to keep our orders authentic to see how the condiment would fare in our typical go-tos. Because, while the “swicy” condiment sounds delicious on an Italian sub or even the new Roasted Chicken Breast sandwich, the true test is how it will perform on my everyday sub.

So, I ordered my classic #8 Club Sub Mike’s Way with Chopped Pepper Relish and Banana Peppers on Rosemary Parmesan Bread and my co-worker ordered the viral #7 sub Mike’s Way with Chopped Pepper Relish on Rosemary Parmesan Bread, but with added pickles. We both added Mike’s Hot Honey to our sub—and both were pleasantly surprised to discover how much we liked it.

First things first, because Jersey Mike’s is offering the Extra Hot version of Mike’s Hot Honey, it’s hot. If you didn’t find KFC’s Mike’s Hot Honey-coated tenders or Utz’s Hot Honey Pretzels to be spicy enough, then you’ll love the Jersey Mike’s add-on.

Mike’s Hot Honey adds a different kind of spice to the sandwich, unlike the pickled hot pepper relish or even another hot sauce. Yes, it has a sweet taste upfront, but the spice is a more warm heat and provides a bit of a zingy, tingling sensation. So, next time, I’d probably choose just one spicy element, since the two together were a bit overpowering.

We enjoyed that the hot honey added extra flavor to our go-to order. However, it’s definitely an add-on that wouldn’t work for all of Jersey Mike’s menu. But, if you’re a hot honey devotee, you might disagree.

Our one and only complaint—similar to that of the viral tuna sub “Vinny’s Way”—is that the added Mike’s Hot Honey makes an already sauced-up Jersey Mike’s sub even soggier. When you order your sub Mike’s Way (aka the only way to order it), they’re loading that sub with oil and vinegar. If you’ve ever gotten Jersey Mike’s delivered or to-go, you know that a Mike’s Way sub has a short shelf life before the bread starts to disintegrate. So, add another liquid, and that life gets even shorter.

When mixed with the oil and vinegar, the hot honey takes on a vinaigrette-type consistency rather than the thick honey consistency you’re used to. So, the hot honey is practically seeping out of the bread along with the oil, vinegar, and any other condiments you might add.

Because of the extra leakage, I’d classify the Mike’s Hot Honey sub—along with the Vinny’s Way tuna sub—as an eat-in-restaurant kind of sandwich. That way you get the bread at its peak stability and the flavors can meld before the toppings start to leak out the sides. When you do, it hits all the right (hot) notes.
