As a millennial who grew up on Funfetti, I admittedly have a soft spot for anything that remotely resembles the playfulness of confetti cake—also known as Birthday Cake. Between Funfetti Rice Krispies and Funfetti donuts, ice cream cake, and cookies, Pillsbury won the hearts of a whole generation with its fluffy vanilla cake and festive rainbow sprinkles, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Just a few years ago, Kit Kat released its first-ever Birthday Cake wafers dipped in birthday cake-flavored creme and studded with sprinkles. In 2024, Hershey announced it was bringing back what one of its fans calls the “best Hershey’s Kiss flavor,” which happens to be Birthday Cake. Even more recently, Taco Bell launched a Birthday Cake churro filled with cake frosting and covered in pink sprinkles, which you can find at the drive-thru right now.

Even Lindt, the Swiss confectionary brand, introduced a Birthday Cake truffle in the summer of 2024. But it looks like Birthday Cake isn’t the only sweet treat the chocolatier is drawing inspiration from. Just days after Valentine’s Day, Lindt quietly launched a new limited-edition Lindor truffle inspired by another iconic and just as-loved cake.

Lindt's New Lindor Carrot Cake Truffles

Although Easter is still more than a month away, Lindt is getting ahead of the curve by dropping a new spring-perfect flavor: Carrot Cake Truffles.

The new Carrot Cake Truffles contain a rich white chocolate outer shell with a velvety carrot cake truffle center. It’s hard to say whether or not white chocolate will deliver the same lip-smacking satisfaction of tangy cream cheese frosting, but I’m confident it’ll be delicious nonetheless—and it appears that fans agree.

“These are a need. I repeat these are a need,” someone commented on Instagram. “I am SO in,” added another.

Scrolling through the countless comments of fans’ excitement for this new item, it’s evident carrot cake is one of the most crowd-pleasing desserts out there. It’s nutty, decadently moist thanks to the carrots, and flecked with warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg that make every bite feel like a warm hug—what’s not to love? When done well, carrot cake has a lofty, melt-in-your-mouth texture that I can totally see working well in a silky smooth truffle—it’s surprising the brand hasn’t explored this direction before.

Like Lindt’s last fan-favorite drop, these new Carrot Cake Truffles are only available for purchase through Target. Easter might still be weeks away, but just as confetti cake can be enjoyed for celebrations other than birthdays, so can carrot cake. So move over Funfetti—we might just have a new “it” flavor in candy.
