And this time, it’s not just a limited-time return—it’s here to stay.
Graeter’s Banana Chocolate Chip Pint Is Back
For those unfamiliar, Graeter’s is a Midwestern treasure that holds the distinction of being the oldest family-owned and operated ice cream maker in America, whipping up frozen treats since 1860. But among the many flavors this old-school brand has churned out over the decades, Banana Chocolate Chip stands out as a fan favorite.
The ice cream features a rich, creamy banana base, loaded with Graeter’s signature chocolate chips. “It tastes like a chocolate-dipped banana in a scoop,” said Bob Graeter, a member of the founding family. “It also happens to be my daughter’s favorite flavor!”

Not only is this flavor a standout, but the ice cream itself is unique. Graeter’s uses a special French pot process—a small-batch, handcrafted technique that produces an ultra-creamy texture unlike any other pint you’ll find in the freezer aisle, and fans can’t seem to get enough of it.
Originally, the seasonal flavor was only around for a brief (but highly anticipated) period every July. Devoted fans would anticipate the chance to stock their freezers: "I wait for this every July," one loyal customer shared. "It got me through my third trimester of pregnancy."
So, when pints unexpectedly started hitting shelves in mid-March, fans were thrilled. But the best news was yet to come—after years of requests, Graeter’s officially announced that Banana Chocolate Chip is now a permanent part of its ice cream lineup.
“Year-round BCC??!! Pretty please,” one fan rejoiced. “I’m crying tears of joy at my work desk. A win for us banana fans. Thank you,” added another.
Banana Chocolate Chip is now available in all Graeter’s scoop shops and online at Graeters.com for nationwide shipping. There’s no word yet on whether it will hit major grocery retailers, but one thing is certain: Banana Chocolate Chip is no longer just a summer fling—it’s here for good.
