Oh, Trader Joe’s. How you love to give and then take away. You give us Sweetheart White Stilton Cheese with bits of chocolate and caramel fudge around Valentine’s Day, tell us it’s in store for a limited time only, but don’t tell us for how long. You put the jars of Hot and Sweet Pepper Jelly on the shelves in the fall, and we have to stock up ASAP because we don’t know if they will still be there when we need them for our holiday food trays.
You fill your freezer with delectable ice cream flavors such as Banana Pudding, Pumpkin, and S’mores, only for us to return a week or so later and have those flavors gone. And yet, we keep coming back. Because, dear TJ’s, the heartbreak is worth the delicious products.
Okay, enough tearful woes about the store that we all love to whine about because, right now, the grocery chain has a new potato chip flavor on shelves that fans are very excited for. And, if they’re as good as they sound, they’ll get us to quit crying about Trader Joe’s removing the Cashel Blue Cheese Irish Potato Chips from shelves.

Garlic. Butter. Potato Chips. Come on! How amazing does that sound? They sound like garlic mashed potatoes in ready-to-pop-in-your-mouth form. Who doesn’t want that?
Trader Joe’s describes its new Garlic Butter Irish Potato Chips as “salty, buttery, and delightfully garlicky, with a charmingly toothsome texture.” The store’s website suggests sticking them in a sandwich (which was one of our first thoughts, too!) or dipping them in its Caramelized Onion Dip.
When Instagram’s Trader Joe’s Treasure Hunt account announced the “Spud-tackular news!!!” and posted a photo of the chips, relaying they were coming to Trader Joe’s, they wrote, “You butter believe we will be on the hunt for these!”
Many fans mentioned they would love the Blue Cheese chips to come back, but also welcomed this new flavor of Irish Potato Chips, commenting, “Oh heck yes! Can’t wait!!,” “I need to try these,” and “Whennnnnnn? I need!”
Since the store has the chips up on its website, we suspect the answer to “Whennnnnnn?” is right now. So excuse us while we go put the new Trader Joe’s Garlic Butter Irish Potato Chips on our TJ's shopping list. We’re sure you’re running to do the same because we all know they’re not going to be around forever.
