Last month, Dutch Bros went after the iconic seasonal McDonald’s Shamrock Shake by creating two of its own versions that “struck gold” with its fans. Now, the Oregon-based coffee chain is setting its sights on another competitor: Starbucks.
Starbucks debuted its Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha and Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte last spring to mixed reviews. However, both were popular enough to warrant the company bringing them back again this year. Hot on Starbucks’ heels, Dutch Bros is bringing back its own highly anticipated lavender-infused favorite, giving Starbucks some serious competition.
Dutch Bros Brings Back Its White Chocolate Lavender Line
This week, Dutch Bros announced that its popular lavender flavor is back just in time for spring. The drive-thru coffee chain first introduced lavender to its menu in 2020 for a limited time, and didn’t bring it back until 2023 with its White Chocolate Lavender Cold Brew, Breve, or Freeze.
Now, the limited-edition springtime flavor is on menus again with the much-anticipated return of all three seasonal fan-favorite drinks featuring lavender and white chocolate.
Dutch Bros customers can choose from the White Chocolate Lavender Breve Cold Brew, made with espresso, half-and-half, and white chocolate and lavender flavors; the White Chocolate Lavender Cold Brew with cold-brewed coffee, cream, and white chocolate and lavender flavors; or the White Chocolate Lavender Freeze, a frozen blend of espresso, half-and-half, ice, white chocolate flavor, and lavender flavor. All three drink options are finished with Dutch Bros’ signature Soft Top, the brand’s sweet cream cold foam. Lavender flavoring can also be added to any drink, such as tea or lemonade.
The brand announced the return of the springtime lineup on Instagram, saying, “Your wish is our command…Lavender is SO back” with fans replying, “My dreams finally come true” and that they have “never been happier.” On another social post, one particularly ecstatic fan chimed in, “I HAVE BEEN WAITING MY ENTIRE LIFE FOR THIS I AM SO HAPPY.”
Many fans are begging the chain to make it a permanent menu item, and the company replied on Instagram that it would “let the right people know!”
Allrecipes editor Deanne Revel hit the drive-thru to give the lavender flavoring a taste test, this time in a lemonade. While Revel found Starbucks’ lavender to have a slightly soapy taste, she found the Dutch Bros lavender to be “light, subtle, and perfect for their tangy lemonade,” adding it “takes me back to my summer in Provence.”

All three lavender drinks are on Dutch Bros’ seasonal menu, so aren’t permanent—at least not yet. So if you want to get your fill of lavender, better hop to it this spring.
