Key Takeaways

  • Utz is releasing a new snacking innovation with a never-before-seen potato chip flavor.
  • The flavor is made in partnership with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
  • A portion of sales will benefit childhood cancer research.

As a food editor, I’ll be honest, it’s pretty difficult to shock me with a new product or flavor announcement. In today’s snacking world, between Frito-Lay, Pringles, Cheez-It, and Oreo, I pretty much feel like I’ve seen it all. Pringles and Miller Lite teamed up to make beer can chicken-flavored chips? Of course they did. Lay’s turned another comfort food into a potato chip? The Bacon Grilled Cheese chips are already in my cart.

But when I saw Utz’s newest, limited-edition flavor, I have to admit, my jaw hit the floor. Utz is releasing an all-new, truly first-of-its-kind potato chip—and it’s all for a great cause.

Utz Launches New Lemonade-Flavored Potato Chips

Utz, the snacking brand behind Mike’s Hot Honey potato chips and Cheese Balls Barrels, is teaming up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to release the first-ever lemonade-flavored potato chip.

The limited-edition flavor is hitting shelves just in time for summer, bringing the nostalgic, tart, yet sweet taste of lemonade to your favorite crunchy, salty snack. Utz Lemonade Potato Chips are “summer in every bite,” according to Stacey Schultz, the senior vice president of marketing at Utz Quality Foods, LLC.

While Lay’s has had Limón, lime-flavored chips; Cape Cod has offered Summer Cracked Pepper and Hint of Lemon Chips in partnership with Sam Adams; and H-E-B’s private label offered Mixed Berry Lemonade chips a few years back, Utz’s seasonal flavor is the first-ever lemonade-flavored potato chip. And, yes, it has all the components of the summer beverage with the chips’ ingredients featuring lemon juice, lemon oil, and sugar.

The tart, sweet, and salty chips will only be available for a limited time this summer, with each bag sold benefiting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. A portion of the sales—up to $25,000—will be donated to the foundation, which raises money for childhood cancer research and provides programs for families impacted by childhood cancer.

Utz’s 7.75-ounce bags of Lemonade Potato Chips are hitting retailer shelves nationwide now, where you can buy them through August, or while supplies last. Even if I weren’t intrigued by what a lemonade-flavored potato chip might taste like, I’d still buy Utz’s new chips—because who wouldn’t want their favorite summer snack to also support battling childhood cancer?
