Key Takeaways

  • Rao's Homemade is adding two new red sauces to its robust line of marinara options.
  • We tried the new sauces early, and one of them has taken the crown as best Rao's Homemade sauce.
  • The new sauces are rolling out to retailers nationwide now.

If you ask most home cooks—from our Allrecipes Allstars to celebs and celebrity chefs—Rao’s Homemade pasta sauces are the cream of the crop. There are only a few store-bought sauces that taste homemade without any zhuzhing, but Rao’s Homemade sauces are certainly one of the rare finds.

While fans—including us—are head over heels for the classic Marinara Sauce, we have to admit that the original isn’t our favorite option from the brand. With such a robust lineup of red sauce, pizza sauce, Alfredo sauce, and elevated “Limited Reserve” sauces, we usually find ourselves reaching for a few jars ahead of the classic marinara.

In 2023, Rao’s Homemade added three sauces to its lineup, including Caramelized Onion, Pizza Arrabbiata, and Vodka Arrabbiata, and we quickly added more jars of the spicy vodka sauce to our pantry. Now, the brand is releasing two more—and one tops the OG and the Vodka Arrabbiata.

The brand is adding even cheesier varieties to its lineup, which currently only includes a Four Cheese marinara, by mixing real cheese into slow-simmered, kettle-cooked pasta sauces. The new Lemon Parmesan sauce features classic marinara with a bright punch of lemon and a savory, cheesy hint of Parmigiano Reggiano.

Rao’s Homemade Creamy Marinara with Mascarpone might be its most luscious, cheesy sauce yet, made with actual, rich mascarpone cheese and heavy cream.

Both new sauces are hitting retailer shelves nationwide now. That means you can add the bright lemon-flavored marinara sauce to all your favorite seafood and veggie dishes this summer, and elevate any weeknight meal with the creamy, cheesy mascarpone-filled sauce.

I tried the new Rao’s Homemade sauces early, here is my honest review.

My Honest Review of Rao's Homemade Lemon Parmesan Sauce and Creamy Marinara Sauce with Mascarpone Cheese

I ate both the new sauces on a simple bed of fusilli pasta and, while they were both tasty, the Creamy Marinara with Mascarpone stood out by a mile. I enjoyed the Lemon Parmesan, however, next time I’d probably use it on chicken or seafood, then serve it on top of some pasta. It has a nice citrusy zip that I think would work better on a protein or vegetable—especially a chicken or eggplant Parmesan—than on regular old pasta.

The Creamy Marinara, on the other hand, is going to be my new go-to sauce for everything from now on. It’s creamy, a little tangy, and extra luxurious, elevating even the simplest pasta. The velvety texture and rich taste easily make this new sauce the best of Rao’s Homemade’s portfolio to date.

Plus, with the subtle difference of adding mascarpone to the classic marinara, it won’t change the flavor profile of any of your regular pasta sauce dishes. So you can swap it in for the traditional marinara to add just a little extra richness, without losing the tomato-forward marinara sauce flavor. My pantry just found its new pasta sauce best friend.
