Key Takeways

  • Aldi is a treasure trove of budget-friendly finds and copycat products that sometimes outshine the original.
  • Its copycat of a fan-favorite Girl Scout Cookie is particularly popular with shoppers, including one who deemed this treat, "one of the best Aldi items of all time."

“Limited time” and “limited edition” are phrases you see often when it comes to restaurant menu items and grocery items. When it comes to food, brands love to create an urgency to buy something before it disappears. And let’s be honest, when we hear that Doritos is bringing back its guacamole flavor “but only for a limited time,” we want to run to the store ASAP for a bag or two. KFC’s Chicken and Waffles is back for a limited time? Someone’s bringing home chickens and waffles for dinner real soon.

Perhaps the OG limited time offering, though, is one we don’t equate with those others. We’re talking about Girl Scout Cookies, which are only available for a handful of weeks before they inevitably disappear until the following year.

Fortunately, other brands have their own versions of Girl Scout Cookies, including the Samoas—or Caramel deLites as they are called in some regions—the cookie topped with caramel, coconut, and chocolate. Aldi is one of them—and lucky for Samoas lovers, it’s one of the best Aldi copycats in the store, according to our news editor Bailey Fink.

Aldi's Copycat Girl Scout Samoas Cookies

You don’t have to just take Fink’s word for how good they are. A recent Reddit thread dedicated to these tasty cookies started with someone praising the Aldi version.

“Gone in 60 Seconds doesn't refer to grand theft auto in our home,” the Redditor wrote about Aldi’s Benton’s Caramel Coconut Fudge Cookies. “$2.29 in the middle of the US. Scouts sold us the same product for $6 for 12 cookies this year. I should've gotten more….”

While a standard Girl Scout box of Samoas should contain around 15 cookies, Aldi's deal, which clocks in at around $2.55 per box (or lower, depending on where you live) is an absolute steal in our books. Plus, they're available year-round!

Scrolling through the countless comments on this Reddit thread, it's clear Aldi's Samoas copycat is a fan favorite.

“My wife has to literally hide them from me, I'm not even kidding,” one commenter said about the Benton’s coconut cookies. Another confessed, "I'll buy a box of these and they are lucky if they survive the trip across the parking lot. They never survive the drive home."

Several commenters went so far as to claim Aldi's version is superior to the real deal, saying, “The texture of these is sooooo much better than GS cookies. The GS ones have gotten tougher over time.”

"One of the best Aldi items of all time," added another Redditor.

Whether the Benton’s Caramel Coconut Fudge Cookies are better than the Samoas or just as good, one thing is for sure: You can get them any time of the year, and that alone will make many cookie lovers very happy.
