On May 11, 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Fresh & Ready Foods LLC is voluntarily recalling 86 different ready-to-eat sandwiches and snacks due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The products were sold in vending machines and break room areas in corporate offices, medical buildings, and healthcare facilities.
The recall was initiated after a routine FDA inspection revealed a positive finding for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria on a piece of equipment in the Fresh & Ready Foods production facility.
How To Identify the Recalled Sandwiches and Snacks
The recalled sandwiches and snack items were sold under three brand names: Fresh & Ready Foods, Fresh Take Crave Away, and City Point Market Fresh Food to Go. The affected products were distributed in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. At this time, the recall applies to any Fresh & Ready Foods products with "Use By" dates between April 22, 2025, and May 19, 2025.
The recall includes 86 different Fresh & Ready Foods products, including a variety of different types of sandwiches, ready-to-eat pastas, snack boxes, and other ready-to-eat snack mixes. For a full list of the recalled products, including their “Use By” dates, item numbers, and other identifying information, visit the FDA’s website. Additionally, photo packaging can be found here.
Consumers who believe they may have purchased any of these items are strongly urged to check the "Use By" date, which is printed on the front of each product package below the net weight.
According to the FDA announcement, Fresh and Ready Foods states that no illnesses have been reported related to the specific products, and the voluntary recall is out of an abundance of caution. However, NBC News reports that 10 illnesses, including 8 hospitalizations, have been reported in California and Nevada in connection with a Listeria outbreak, and the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating to confirm the source.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and even fatal infections, particularly in at-risk groups including pregnant women, young children, immunocompromised individuals, and those who are 65 and older. For more information on listeria, including symptoms of listeria infection, visit the CDC website.
