Key Takeaways

  • Blue Diamond Almonds has a new flavor we never saw coming.
  • The sweet-and-salty snack is a collaboration with Slurpee, and only sold at 7-Eleven and its franchises.

Here’s the thing about food combinations that seem unhinged: often, they’re really good. People were taken aback when Matthew McConaughey shared his tuna salad recipe with pickles, jalapeño chips, wasabi paste, corn, peas, and even apple. And, as unhinged as it sounds, it’s flavorful and delicious.

Lately, we’ve seen so many snack collaborations that seem like they shouldn’t work, yet totally do. Miller Lite Beer Can Chicken Pringles? Savory, salty perfection. Peeps-flavored milk? Surprisingly delicious. Totino’s pizza roll-inspired ramen? Sure, why not.

The latest unhinged snack pairing is also not as strange as it initially sounds. Blue Diamond is adding a new flavor in collaboration with Slurpee, and it's one that makes a lot of sense.

You can only get a genuine Slurpee at 7-Eleven or one of its franchises, like Speedway and Stripes. And that’s exactly where you’ll find the newest 7-Eleven-exclusive Blue Diamond almond flavor: Cherry Slurpee.

Cherry almonds? Is that really unhinged? Maybe it’s the Slurpee part of the equation that’s throwing people off, because almond and cherry work really well together. Think Cherry Almond Cookies, Cherry Pie, or Cherry Muffins, all made with almond extract.

This snack takes the classic crunch of Blue Diamond almonds and marries it with the sweet pop of cherry in a classic Cherry Slurpee, creating a crave-worthy, sweet-and salty-snack in 1.5-ounce snack packs for eating on the go.

When Instagram’s @markie_devo announced the combo and asked followers for their thoughts, the feedback was mixed.

“Either they’re awesome or they taste like children’s Tylenol,” one commenter said. Another thought the product goes too far, saying, “They’re doing anything at this point.”

But others weren’t as skeptical. “Cherry and almonds do hit together—could be a win!!” reasoned one commenter. Another echoed the sentiment, “I once made cherry almond cake and everybody loved it.”

Another Instagram user shared their positive review of the snack, writing, “These are wild…they taste exactly like a Cherry Slurpee!” They added, “I love that this isn’t just labeled “cherry” with a Slurpee logo, they really captured that classic Cherry Slurpee flavor!”

Whether you’re a skeptic or an optimist, you won’t be taking too big of a risk to try out the new Cherry Slurpee-flavored almonds—the sweet and salty snack starts at just $1.79 for a pack. In our opinion, that’s totally worth it to find out if this is another unhinged eye-catcher or the road trip snack you didn’t know you needed this summer.
